Jakob Derks

Jakob Derks holds a double MSc degree in European Forestry from the universities of Eastern Finland and Freiburg, following a BSc in agro- and biotechnology at Ghent University College. He previously also obtained a degree in linguistics from Ghent University. Jakob has worked as a horticulture teacher, arborist and as a forest manager for a forest owner association in Belgium before joining EFI in 2016. Since then, he has been active in a variety of projects, with a focus on integrated forest management and social perceptions of landscapes and forest management. Forest inventories, lectures and trainings are just as much part of his work as academic inquiries. His work is thus situated at a crossroads of scientific research and practical experience.
