Forests discussed at royal meeting

EFI Director Marc Palahí visited the Dumfries House Estate in Scotland on 31 October, to discuss the future of our forests with His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, as well as with representatives of The Prince’s Foundation.

The visit included a tour of the estate, together with discussions about the most recent scientific advances for the sustainable transformation of different types of wood resources into new types of bioenergy and biomaterials.

Also discussed was the need for an Earth Forest Summit, which would bring together Heads of State for the first time ever to discuss the situation of the world’s forests. Forests are of crucial importance for mitigating and adapting to climate change, enhancing biodiversity and transitioning from a fossil economy towards a circular bioeconomy.
