Mathias’ research focuses on forest and land use governance, particularly in the context of tropical deforestation and forest degradation. His work has explored the link between global supply chains of forest and agricultural commodities and forest loss. In this context, he is especially interested in the implementation of public and private regulations aimed at addressing forest loss. Mathias holds a master’s degree in social sciences from the University of Eastern Finland and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Bonn.
