Michael has experience in sustainable land use, agriculture, and forestry, specialising in agroforestry, forest ecology, and ecosystem services. His research focuses on sustainable supply chains, ecological forest management, and plant-animal interactions. 

He has contributed to European initiatives mapping agroforestry practices and promoting their benefits for biodiversity and multifunctional landscapes. 

Michael is experienced in translating scientific knowledge into practical applications for farmers and foresters, supporting the uptake of innovative practices. 

His earlier work examined herbivore impacts across boreal forests and Arctic tundra, ranging from large ungulates to small mammals and insects, providing expertise in biodiversity assessment, grazing ecology, and land-use impact analysis.
