Sven holds Ma. and PhD degrees in Economics, and habilitation (DSc post-doctoral degree) in Forest Economics, all from the University of Copenhagen. He has side affiliations as Senior Associate with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and as Honorary Professor at the University of Copenhagen.
His work over the last three decades has centered around forests and natural resource management, incentive policies for forest conservation (such as payments for environmental services), development economics, deforestation and land-use change, forest fires, ecotourism and forest-poverty linkages.
