Annual Report 2022

The EFI Annual Report 2022 highlights a year of renewed collaboration, scientific leadership and growing engagement on some of the most pressing forest-related challenges facing Europe and the world. As debates around climate change, biodiversity loss and sustainable forest management intensified, EFI continued to provide independent, science-based knowledge and facilitate dialogue among researchers, policymakers, practitioners and stakeholders. 

The report showcases major initiatives launched or advanced during the year, including the EUFORE project, the ForestPaths and CLEVER Horizon Europe projects, and the establishment of the EFI Biocities. It also presents EFI’s contributions to science-policy processes, forest restoration, sustainable finance, climate-smart forestry, forest biodiversity, and international partnerships addressing deforestation in global supply chains. 

After years of pandemic-related restrictions, 2022 marked an important return to in-person engagement. EFI’s Annual Conference and Scientific Seminar in Barcelona brought members and partners together to explore innovative approaches to creating more sustainable and resilient urban environments through trees, forests and wood. The report also highlights support for EFI members, young researchers, science communication initiatives, and efforts to strengthen collaboration across Europe and beyond.
