Short brief on participatory planning and governance
Participatory planning and governance (PP&G) is a collaborative, democratic approach to planning in which citizens, communities and stakeholders actively engage in decision-making, planning and management processes. A PP&G approach shifts planning from top-down management to inclusive, bottom-up methods, empowering local communities to engage directly in policy-making, projects and budget allocation. For Urban Nature Plans (UNPs), PP&G approaches are vital to ensure that renaturing is planned in a way that is locally contextualised and socially just. However, effective implementation also requires robust monitoring to ensure that these processes deliver their intended benefits and include key groups and stakeholders.
