EFI experts in high demand for insights into extreme wildfire events

EFI works on forest resilience and adaptation to climate change all year round, but with France and Spain currently confronted by record-breaking wildfires, the phones are ringing off the hook to talk to our experts about why this is happening, and what we could do about it.

Over the course of the past week, various EFI experts in wildfire, forest resilience, and forest risk have been interviewed on TV, radio, and in print to answer questions ranging from forestry and firefighting techniques in these extreme conditions and how risk is accentuated by forest monocultures, to the impact of frequent fires and forests' regeneration capacity.

Who are our experts?

Alex Held is senior expert on wildfire, with decades of experience in fire management in multiple continents.

Inazio Martinez de Arano leads EFI's Forest Innovation team, and has also been working on wildfire prevention for several decades.

Silvia Abruscato is the coordinator of FoRISK, a pan-European forest policy process for the forest risk management community.
