About
The Mediterranean is a region of remarkable diversity, rich in cultures, forest landscapes, and ecosystems. Yet it faces shared challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation, and rural depopulation.
EFIMED plays a key role in coordinating responses to these challenges by supporting forest research, sustainable forest management, and evidence-based policymaking. It connects people and organisations from both shores of the Mediterranean, bringing together a growing network of researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to develop science-based solutions.
Our impact
Since 2007, EFIMED has promoted science-based collaboration to support the future of Mediterranean forests. It coordinates a regional network that fosters co-creation, knowledge exchange and practical application.
With extensive experience in EU-funded projects and strong scientific and communication expertise, EFIMED is a trusted partner and a key contributor to forest policy at national and international levels. Its deep knowledge of regional actors, from research institutions to civil society, helps shape forest agendas aligned with Mediterranean needs and challenges.
Areas of work
EFIMED strengthens cooperation to ensure Mediterranean forests remain resilient and sustainable in a changing world, focusing on four key areas:
- Research: Scientific studies on forests, climate adaptation, and biodiversity
- Policy: Evidence to support national and regional decision-making
- Capacity building and knowledge transfer: Training, networking, and exchange
- Communication: Sharing forest knowledge with relevant stakeholders
Strategic initiatives include:
- EFI Mediterranean Network Forum
- EFI Young Leadership Programme Mediterranean
