How can cities bring more nature into urban life, and how do they know it is working? Nature in cities, or cities in nature? Planning, measuring, and enhancing urban biodiversity, the third session in the EFI Biocities webinar series, explores how on 26 November (15:00–16:30 CET). With the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 calling on cities of more than 20,000 inhabitants to develop an Urban Nature Plan, and the Nature Restoration Regulation asking them to help restore urban ecosystems, the session connects EU policy with practical action on the ground.
The session brings together research, policy and practical expertise. Kes McCormick (Professor, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) and Stuart Connop (Associate Professor and Director of the Sustainability Research Institute, University of East London) will introduce Urban Nature Plans, drawing on the UNP+ project. Damien Mittempergher (Economist, IUCN) will present biodiversity footprinting and natural capital accounting for cities, based on the experience of the CircHive project. A further speaker, presenting a local case study, will be announced soon.
Moderated by the EFI Biocities team, the 90-minute session includes presentations, a panel discussion and live Q&A.
