The ordinary plenary session of the Conference takes place during the EFI Annual Conference week, which is organized in cooperation with EFI member organizations  and serves as one of EFI’s main decision‑making bodies. The Annual Conference week is held each year over three days, including one day for the ordinary plenary session, one day for a scientific seminar, and one day for a field trip. The official language of all EFI events is English. Information about previous Annual Conferences and their venues is available here.

To raise awareness among the general public and decision makers about Europe’s forests in an increasingly urbanized society, EFI awards the title of European Forest City to the city that hosts the Annual Conference. The title is granted annually and remains valid for one calendar year (e.g. European Forest City 2025). During this period, the host city is welcome to use the title in its promotional materials and communications.

If your organization is interested in hosting the Annual Conference week in 2028 or 2029, please find the application form attached. Kindly submit the completed form to efisec@efi.int. You can also send any questions related to hosting the Conference to the same address.

The call closes on Thursday, 26 March 2026.
