The 6th Ordinary Session of the Council of the European Forest Institute took place virtually on 10 September.

Representatives from 18 of EFI’s 29 Member Countries discussed the exciting developments which have taken place at EFI over the last three-year period, in order to implement the EFI2025 Strategy. These include the development of the EFI organizational ecosystem, to include three Research Programmes (Bioeconomy, Resilience and Governance), five Facilities and two Research Networks.

EFI lies at the centre of a network of member organisations, and during this period established the Network Fund to support their transnational scientific cooperation within EFI’s strategy themes. EFI Director Marc Palahí also presented EFI’s ongoing work to support a new generation of forest scientists, and to raise awareness of the role of forests and forest ecosystem services.

The Council approved the new strategic policy framework for EFI for the next three-year period. Italy was chosen as the new Chair of the Council for 2020-2023.

The Council meets every three years in ordinary session, and is the highest decision-making body of EFI.
