EFI Annual Conference highlights
For the second consecutive year, EFI’s Annual Conference was organised online. On 6 October, over 100 participants joined EFI Secretariat to discuss future plans and carry out decision-making.
Our Annual Conferences gather together representatives of our member organisations and form an important hub of interaction and networking each year. The Annual Conference 2021 was organised together with the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences.
In the Members’ Dialogue session, EFI’s new Strategy Implementation plan for 2022-2025 was presented by EFI Director Marc Palahí, Deputy Director Rober Mavsar and Head of Governance Programme Georg Winkel.
Decision-making session in brief
Leire Barañano, Spain, an EFI Board member since 2018, was re-elected for a second term.
As Prof. Dr. Christine Farcy, stepped down from the Board after two consecutive terms, a call for nominations for the open seat was launched in March 2021. The Annual Conference elected Prof. Margarida Tomé, Portugal as the new Board member.
As we were not able to hold either the 2020 or 2021 Annual Conference face-to-face as planned (in Bonn, Germany and Prague, Czech Republic), it was decided that the 2024 Annual Conference will be held in Bonn, Germany and the 2025 Annual Conference in Prague, Czech Republic. The previously selected Annual Conference hosts are Barcelona, Spain for 2022 and Novi Sad, Serbia for 2023.
Finally, the Annual Conference ended by congratulating Knut Øistad and awarding him the title of Fellow of EFI to honour his outstanding work on and dedication to European forest research. Knut was the Chair of the EFI Board 2017-2020 and is a long-time collaborator of EFI.
