This year, the 27th Session of the International Commission on Poplars and Other Fast-Growing Trees Sustaining People and the Environment (IPC) will bring together experts under the theme “Poplars and Other Fast-Growing Trees for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation – Pathways to Climate Resilience and Carbon Neutral Societies.” The 27th IPC Session will convene experts on a wide range of aspects related to the management of fast-growing species and highlight their pivotal role in fostering sustainability amidst evolving environmental landscapes. The IPC is a statutory body within the framework of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) which plays an important role in the development of the forest and timber sectors in rural areas.

Co-organized by the French Ministry of Agriculture, the European Institute of Planted Forests (IEFC), and the French National Poplar Council (CNP) and contributing to the IUFRO Taskforce on Planted Forests, the 27th IPC Session is scheduled to take place in Bordeaux, France from 22 to 25 October 2024. Two study trips will be organized to further enable knowledge exchange: a pre-study trip from 17 to 20 October 2024 in France, and a post-study trip from 27 to 29 October 2024 in Italy. Abstracts (400 words max.) can be submitted by Monday 1 July at: https://www.plantedforests.org/ipc27/abstracts/. Registrations are opened until 15 September.
