The research objective of the project was to study the growth-climate relations under different climatic and atmospheric deposition conditions to gain a broader understanding of growth dynamics and production risks. Therefore, standardised growth and climate parameters were used for comparison of growth reactions and their driving forces with common statistical methods to quantify growth-climate relationships in the following regions: Norway, Finland, E. Germany and SW Germany. The more specific objectives of the project were:
- to describe past variations and changes in the growth rate of Norway spruce;
- to identify and quantify environmental factors which control growth variation;
- to develop scenarios of future growth under changing climatic conditions.
