The purpose of the service was to provide a community of end-users with an operational system, which provides reliable and timely information in the field of forest monitoring according to user demands and requirements and which supports decision-makers in formulating, implementing and evaluating public policies on environment and security.
The key objective of the GSE consolidation phase was the definition and demonstration of products and services in close cooperation with the end-users. Considerable long-term developments, scaling up and integration at European-level will be carried out within the GSE activities in order to match end-user needs for services of sufficient operational performance, reliability, availability and affordability. The GSE activities envisaged existing areas of scientific, technical and industrial excellence to work together in an international network as a centre of operational competence within the GSE Service Centres.
