The initiative forms a Center of Advanced Research (CAR) on forest-based bioeconomy related topics in the Nordic countries. The objectives of the CAR include establishing and strengthening multidisciplinary research and post-graduate education collaboration in the Nordic countries, initiating and applying for financial support for advanced joint research projects, and serving science-policy interaction and decision-making in forestry and the forest-based industries. The major effort of the CAR will be an annual (2016 – 2020) workshop “Forest-based BIOECONOMY week - FBBW” on the ongoing research activities, each lasting for approximately one week and organized jointly by the consortium-members. EFI plays a crucial role in the initiative both as an organizer of the annual events and as a provider of scientific results, particularly through the five-year FORBIO project.
The CAR is funded by the Nordic Forest Research network (SNS).
