"The Expert Level Meeting (ELM) of the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe (FOREST EUROPE) decided on the “Further improvements in forest monitoring and reporting”. One of the tasks of this item is: “The next reporting on the State of Europe’s Forests would reflect the improvements in policies and their implementation for sustainable forest management and any changes in its assessing tools”. That implies the elaboration of the Report “State of Europe’s Forests 2015” (SoEF 2015). The report “State of Europe’s Forests 2015”, among other publications, will serve as background information for the political discussions on future opportunities and challenges, and political responses to these, at the seventh Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe.
As the previous editions the “State of Europe’s Forests” will include information related to the pan-European set of Criteria & Indicators. The information on Quantitative Indicators has been collected through the Joint FOREST EUROPE/UNECE/FAO Questionnaire on Pan-European Indicators for Sustainable Forest Management. The set of disaggregated data provided by the national reports has been organized, analyzed and summarized in a suitable form to facilitate the report drafting process (“Output Tables”).
A group of EFI staff has been selected as authors to collaborate on the elaboration of the chapters related to Pan-European Criteria 4 and 5. The list of tasks to be fulfilled for this collaboration is:
a) Lead Authors tasks:
I. To take overall responsibility for preparing major sections of the Report
II. Drafting key findings and chapters they have been assigned to.
b) Authors tasks:
I. To be responsible for producing the first draft of sections designated to them by the Lead Authors. To prepare technical information in the form of text, graphs or data for inclusion by the Lead Authors into the draft section.
The above mentioned tasks will be coordinated by the Coordinating Lead Authors on Qualitative Indicators, and in close communication and supervision of FOREST EUROPE-LUM.
