SUFAREL - Qualifications Framework for Sustainable Forestry and Lifelong Learning

SUFAREL focused on improvement of the quality of Russian (RU) higher professional education in forestry by development of the Qualification Framework (QF) in sustainable forestry and lifelong learning (LLL) in cooperation between RU and EU Universities. Proposed activities will bring to harmonization of the forestry degree programs in RU to the standards of EU partners based on the principles of lifelong learning, labour markets requirements, ECTS, and integration. A considerable part of the project was devoted to the development of new e-courses, a network of the professionals to sustainably continue promotion of the SUFAREL results to the society. Improvement of the human capacity of the RU Universities and organisations will be provided by internship opportunities for RU University teachers and PhD students.

Specific objectives to be achieved:

  • 6 Collaborative Centres in the field of sustainable forestry and LLL in RU Universities.
  • Internship opportunities in EU Universities and companies for teachers from RU.
  • Exchanges of 14 master and PhD students between the consortium.
  • 4 modules of videoconference trainings in the field of the QF.
  • 4 workshops o the consortium regarding the QF.
  • 9 Level’s descriptors of QF in SF and LLL for RU.
  • 3 Info-days successfully held in all partner universities.
  • Modernisation and tuning of the 3-Cycle education and LLL for RU Universities.
  • 12 open access e-learning-2.0 courses.
  • Increased network of forestry Universities.
  • Licensing of the QF and E-learning courses in RU National accreditation agency.
  • 1 international dissemination conference.

EFI’s tasks in the project
EFI is a project partner and will provide to SUFAREL e.g. its expertise in the assessment of climate change impacts and development of adaptation strategies to better cope with and/or mitigate climate change; and its ToSIA tool (Tool for Sustainability Impact Assessment). EFI will also facilitate dissemination on the project results to the forest community through its European-wide channels, and will co-organise a study tour in Finland in September 2012 together with University of Helsinki, Palmenia Centre for Continuous Education.
