The long-term objective of Trees4Future is to provide the whole European forestry community, with an easy and comprehensive access to complementary sources of information and expertise to optimise the short and long-term exploitation of the forest resources by both the research community and the socio-economic players. Providing access to the wider research community to a wide variety of forestry research infrastructures via the project will enable Trees4Future to improve, coordinate and validate its offer to the European and International researchers from both public and private sectors and thus ensure the future sustainability of the consortium as well as that of the wider European Forestry community at large.
In WP1 the main responsibility for EFI is to contribute to the development of common access to genetic databases. In WP3: EFI ensures coordination and links to the REINFFORCE project. EFI leads WP4 and within it will, together with other WP4 partners, set up and implement a concerted dissemination, outreach and training programme making use of novel communication channels, and based on demands of the target audiences. EFI will be in charge of designing and implementing a user-friendly durable portal for making available the research infrastructures as well as other relevant information. In WP6 EFI will contribute to the standardisation of data structures and developing common protocols and interfaces. EFI leads WP 10 "Developing modes of compatibility of modeling tools to assess both dynamics in goods and services, and sustainability, and to evaluate adaptation and mitigation strategies for European forests", and has a strong role in WP9 "Establish a Clearinghouse with GIS functionality for research data from national and EU databases, plots, resources".
