Mesele received his Ph.D. in Agriculture and Forestry from the Department of Forest Sciences at the University of Helsinki, Finland, with a major in Forest Ecology and Agroforestry. His current work focuses on regenerative agriculture, agroforestry, forest and regenerative landscape restoration, climate change mitigation, and biodiversity conservation across the Global South (Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia) as well as the Mediterranean region, particularly Italy. Before joining EFI, he worked in academia and contributed to a wide range of research and development projects in East Africa, serving as an educator, principal investigator, project coordinator, and project manager. He has also taken part in several collaborative initiatives in forestry, agroforestry, and climate-smart agriculture with various European universities, CIFOR-ICRAF, and UNDP.
