The 6th Ordinary Session of the Council of the European Forest Institute took place virtually on 10 September.

Representatives from 18 of EFI’s 29 Member Countries discussed the exciting developments which have taken place at EFI over the last three-year period, in order to implement the EFI2025 Strategy. These include the development of the EFI organizational ecosystem, to include three Research Programmes (Bioeconomy, Resilience and Governance), five Facilities and two Research Networks.

Alenka Korenjak (Slovenia) has been elected as a new EFI Board member by the EFI Council at its Ordinary session on 10 September.

Ms Korenjak works in the Forestry and Hunting Directorate of the Slovenian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food. For the last 12 years she has focused on forestry policy, the functioning of forest public service, and on forest legislation. 

On August 18, the contract for a new programme called Regional-ASEAN Forest Governance support programme (FLEGT Asia) was signed between EFI and the European Commission represented by the EU Delegation to Indonesia. The three-year five million euro programme will be implemented by EFI’s Asia regional office in Kuala Lumpur. It will contribute to enhance and demonstrate good forest governance, monitoring and sustainable forest management across ASEAN member states and in the Asia region.

The registration for the sixth meeting of the European Network Integrate is now open! The webinar will take place on 28 September. This is the second of two meetings organised by the Danish Nature Agency, Denmark being the current chair of the European Network Integrate. The focus will be on how to integrate segregation in sustainable forest management and the tools, scale and processes involved.
