Białowieża Science Initiative - Policy brief
The Białowieża Science Initiative (BSI) gathered more than 20 scientists from various disciplines and distinct perspectives on the Białowieża Forest management conflict for an independent assessment of the scientific evidence. The assessment covers forest history, socio-economic factors, governance, ecology and disturbances to evaluate diverging perspectives on appropriate management.
You can read the BSI policy brief with an explanation of the approach and main findings, and draw some conclusions for other forests in Europe facing similar challenges.
The Białowieża Science Initiative is part of the INFORMAR project, managed by the European Forest Institute (EFI) Resilience Programme and supported and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture (BMEL).
