  • How can we achieve the objectives of the 2030 EU Forest Strategy and the EU Biodiversity Strategy within national forest sectors?
  • How can we balance biodiversity, climate resilience and wood production in the context of nature restoration policies, climate change and the growing bioeconomy?

We invite you to join the final conference of the European research projects BIOCONSENT and LEARNFORCLIMATE, taking place on 23 September 2025 in Bonn, Germany.

Over the past three years, both projects have generated new scientific knowledge and decision support through policy analysis, forest owner research, scenario work and ecological modelling. Case studies across six countries—Bulgaria, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden—as well as at the EU level, have shed light on key questions for Europe’s forests future.

The conference will address pressing issues such as policy and legal coherence between EU and national levels, alternative policy and socio-economic scenarios for forest management, and the diversity of forest owners and their behavioural responses. We will also discuss contrasting approaches like land sharing, land sparing, and TRIAD, as well as the trade-offs among ecosystem services across Europe.

The event brings together EU and national policy-makers, public authorities, forest owners and businesses, environmental NGOs, certification bodies, and researchers from both social and natural sciences. It will be a space to share insights, learn from each other, and co-design policy tools and forest management strategies to support biodiversity restoration, climate adaptation, and sustainable timber use.

Participation is free of charge, and travel and accommodation costs may be financially supported by the organisers for eligible participants.
