EFIMED May Newsletter 2025

The May issue of EFI Mediterranean Network News highlights the Young Leadership Programme – Mediterranean (YLPMED) 2025, which brought together 17 emerging forest leaders from South-eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. Held from 5 to 9 May, the programme combined climate-smart forest management with workshops on storytelling, photography and filmmaking, empowering a new generation of forest innovators.

This edition also covers wildfire management innovations, the INTERCEDE project annual meeting, and FAO’s interactive story, Turning Over a New Leaf. The new FoRISK facility, hosted by EFI under FOREST EUROPE, promotes collaboration on forest risk management and resilience.

In this issue, we highlight how nature-based solutions in Tunisia showcase the role of carob and fig trees in combating wildfires and soil erosion. At the same time, CREAF is strengthening collaboration through climate projects with California. Additionally, HoliSoils contributed soil carbon strategies at the LULUCF Workshop, while EFI’s ThinkForest webinar further explored the growing role of carbon farming in forestry.

As always, this edition includes calls, upcoming events, and publications from across the Mediterranean and beyond, alongside updates on policy forums, international projects, and open opportunities for funding and collaboration.
