New Forest Risk Facility to be established in Bonn
The ninth Ministerial Conference of Forest Europe, a pan-European forest policy process, has agreed to establish a Forest Risk Facility (FoRISK) in Bonn. EFI will provide the secretariat for the Facility, which is initially funded by the German government.
The Facility aims to help countries reach a common understanding on approaches for tackling the most pressing forest risks and support their work by:
- further strengthening international and transboundary cooperation and networking on disaster risk management, forest adaptation and resilience
- stimulating knowledge and information exchange within the policy-science-practice interface
- increasing proactive engagement with the public and the media and disseminating information in an accessible and appropriate format.
Robert Mavsar, EFI Director said: “We are delighted to host the Forest Risk Facility (FoRISK), reinforcing our core belief at EFI that pan-European cooperation is key to tackling forest related challenges. FoRISK will serve as a crucial platform for sharing knowledge, ideas, and innovative approaches, uniting expertise across borders to build resilience and ensure sustainable forest management.”
