October’s EFIMED newsletter: key insights, events, and initiatives for building resilient forests
The October edition of EFI’s Mediterranean Network Newsletter is packed with updates and insights! This month’s main feature centres on the much-anticipated 8th Mediterranean Forest Week (8MFW), taking place in Barcelona from 4–7 November. To set the stage, a webinar series has been made available, diving into key themes like climate resilience, ecosystem services, and sustainable forest management. The recorded sessions offer participants a chance to gain in-depth knowledge before the event’s six plenary sessions.
Further highlights include the launch of the Entangled Destiny project, which explores the cultural heritage of olive, carob, and stone pine trees across the Mediterranean. Updates on carbon farming as a strategy to enhance forest resilience, and the latest policy discussions from the ForestPaths Policy Lab on envisioning forests in 2050, provide critical insights into sustainable forest futures.
This issue also features open calls, including applications for the YLPMED 2025, enabling young leaders to shape the Mediterranean forest landscape. Upcoming events like the Bioeconomy Regions Summit are set to deepen collaborative action towards resilient and climate-smart forestry. Join the Mediterranean forest community and explore the initiatives shaping sustainable forest management across the region.
