Council appoints new EFI Board members
The Council of EFI is the highest governance body of EFI and meets every three years in ordinary sessions.
The 7th Ordinary Session of the Council of the European Forest Institute took place in Rome on 19 April.
Representatives from 10 of EFI’s Member Countries learned more about the exciting developments which have taken place at EFI over the last three years. EFI has increased its credibility and impact as a research-based organisation, as well as a science-policy-media broker. Following the announcement of the resignation of Marc Palahí as Director, the countries thanked him for his efforts which have helped to transform EFI into a vibrant and successful organisation.
The Council approved the continuation of the strategic policy framework for EFI for the period 2023-2026.
Professor Verena Griess was reappointed as a member of the EFI Board.
The Council also appointed three new Board members:
- Prof. Dr. Elena Paoletti, Research Director of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR).
- Prof. Róbert Marušák, Dean of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague.
- Maggie Charnley, Head of the UK International Forests Unit, joint Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
The Czech Republic was chosen as the new Chair of the Council for 2023-2026.
