On Tuesday 18 May, Prague received the European Forest City Award 2021 – an award that recognises the city’s commitment to forests and trees, as well as to forest research and education. Due to COVID pandemic the award ceremony was organised virtually.

In his speech EFI Director Marc Palahí highlighted that Prague hosts the most important forest knowledge hubs in Europe. "The Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences in the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague was established more than 100 years ago and is one of the most important EFI members in Central and Eastern Europe. The Faculty has become a magnet in the region for international talent and they coordinated one of our most important studies of the last years on the problem of bark beetle. We are very happy that this year the Faculty will host our Annual Conference."

Since 2014, the European Forest Institute has granted the title of ‘European Forest City’ to the city which hosts the EFI Annual Conference. Previous holders include Bonn, Aberdeen and Sardinia.

The EFI Annual Conference will be held in Prague from 6-8 October.
