EFI Mediterranean Network Forum 2022

Registrations are open the registration for the first edition of the EFI Mediterranean Network Forum! Between 29 November and 1 December 2022, the European Forest Institute Mediterranean Facility (EFIMED) is excited to be welcoming old friends and new stakeholders to the Sant Pau Art Nouveau site in Barcelona to renew collaboration and invite participation in EFIMED’s network connecting forest researchers, policymakers, and practitioners across the Mediterranean.

EFIMED is also looking forward to launching theMediterranean Forest Research Agenda – MFRA 2030 which presents opportunities for further collaborative work building on the participatory process undertaken over the past two years in putting the new agenda together. MFRA 2030 aims to be a key point of reference for further action over the next decade and is intended to inspire stakeholders to play a role in making Mediterranean forests more resilient in the face of climate change and demographic challenges. A call for abstracts for a poster session on themes related to the MFRA 2030 is also open to give network stakeholders the opportunity to present their latest research.

The Forum is preceded by a series of online workshops focussing on the four themes of the MFRA 2030. These will take place weekly in November and will allow participants to take a deep dive into the four themes in preparation for the forum. Workshop outputs will be presented during the forum and serve as starting point from which to tackle a crosscutting issue for Mediterranean forests: forest management for Mediterranean forest resilience. Forum results will be presented to governments and development agencies seeking collaboration, partnerships, and funding and capacity-building opportunities.

Finally, a high spot of the event will be the field visit to Montserrat Natural Park. An integral part of the forum, the field visit offers the opportunity to connect and interact in one of Catalonia’s most magnificent natural parks while witnessing first-hand  how rural abandonment, biomass accumulation, and forest fire risks are managed in Catalonia.

The 2022 Network Forum is going to be a highlight of our EFIMED calendar – we hope you will join us!
