The EFI Mediterranean Network Forum 2026 opened on Monday 23 March with a plenary session and networking activities hosted at the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia. Scientific and interactive sessions were held at the Valencia Polytechnic University, with Tuesday dedicated to discussion on three main themes for the Mediterranean network, while Wednesday was a truly participatory day, with a hackathon inviting collaboration and innovation on topics of focus, and a session placing the spotlight on creative storytelling and youth engagement. On Thursday, a choice of field visits gave participants a practical insight into the focus topics, exploring nearby Mediterranean landscapes and discussing with local stakeholders. Finally, we returned to the Botanical Gardens for a workshop and the event closing session on Friday.

A novelty for this edition was the introduction of thematic days, and in 2026 the theme was Carob (Ceratonia siliqua). The programme kicked off with a dedicated hackathon on Wednesday, followed by field and industry visits, and concluded on Friday with discussion and group work.
