About  

Novi Sad  is the second largest city in Serbia and the capital of the autonomous province of Vojvodina. Novi Sad is home for c. 367,121 inhabitants. It is located in the southern portion of the Pannonian Plain on the border of the Bačka and Syrmia geographical regions. Lying on the banks of the Danube river, the city faces the northern slopes of Fruška Gora.

Novi Sad was founded in 1694. It has long been a center of Serbian culture, which was named "Serbian Athens". Today, Novi Sad is a large industrial and financial center of the Serbian economy, a university town, and school center, and the cultural, scientific, medical, political, and administrative center of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. Novi Sad hosted many international and domestic economic, cultural, scientific, and sports events, as well as the city museums, galleries, libraries, and theaters.  

Novi Sad was the European Capital of Culture for the year 2022  and the European Youth Capital in 2019.

Weather in autumn is generally nice with the average temperature on September around 20°C

Currency

The official currency of Serbia is the Dinar. Credit cards are accepted in most hotels and shops, and nearly all ATMs accept international bank cards. 120 Dinars is circa 1,02 Euros.

Conference venue

Rectorate building

Conference will be held in the Rectorate building of the University of Novi Sad. The building covers a space of 5000 square meters and has modern and multifunctional equipment. The amphitheater has a capacity of 170 guests and all technical logistics. Besides the amphitheater, there are more multifunctional conference rooms, exhibition areas, a university club, a Central library, research centers, offices, etc. The location of the building is quite impressive as it is integrated into the University Park, only 50 meters from the river Danube.

Conference buses

There will buses marked with EFI 2023 sign available to transfer participants between selected hotels and conference venue on 20-21 September.

Participants will be transported to and from the Conference venue from the Hotel Centar (Uspenska 1, Hotel Pupin is adjacent to this station), Hotel Sheraton (Polgar Andraša 1), and Hotel Aleksandar (Bulevar Cara Lazara 79). Participants staying in other hotels can take the same bus by walking to some of the hotels named above.

The bus will depart every day at 8.00. from the Hotel Centar (bus station across the Serbian National Theatre) and will stop in front of the Hotel Sheraton and the Hotel Aleksandar. Please keep in mind that the bus takes around 2-3 minutes to travel the distance between the two hotels!

The return bus will leave the Conference Venue at 17.30, following the conclusion of all sessions. It will make stops in front of the hotels Aleksandar, Prezident, and Centar (final stop).

In addition to transportation to the conference hall, which is organized by local organizers, it is also possible to use public transportation (buses). The conference hall can be reached by bus lines 1, 4 and 8 from the direction of the city center, while from the direction of Hotel Aleksandar it is possible to reach it by bus line number 9. Buses run every 5 to 10 minutes.

You can find information about the network of lines on the website, where you can see the bus route by clicking on the number. From the bus stop to the conference hall it takes about 5 minutes to walk.

You can only buy a bus ticket in the vehicle from the driver and pay only in cash in the amount of 65.00 Serbian dinars (around 50 cents). The ticket is valid for one ride only.

Travel and Accommodation

Novi Sad currently does not have its own civil airport. The city is about a one-hour drive from Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, which connects it with capitals across Europe. 

There are public transportation options from Belgrade airport to Novi Sad, train Soko runs about 36 minutes and bus 70-90 minutes. 

If you registered for transportation from the  "Nikola Tesla" Airport to your hotel in Novi Sad, please look for  the EFI 2023 sign at the airport's arrival area.
