The February issue of EFI Mediterranean Network News covers the key points of the 6th Forest Innovation Workshop in Brussels, where experts discussed sustainable forest management, restoration and agroforestry. Horizon Europe projects such as Forest4EU, HoliSoils, RESONATE and EUFORE played a key role, stressing the need for coordinated action at all levels to strengthen the resilience of forests.

This issue also explores advances in climate-smart forestry, with research on the impact of fire on soil carbon, the decline of oak trees in Mediterranean climates, and forest genetics. In addition, the FORGENIUS project, in its final year, highlights the role of remote sensing and genetics in forest conservation.

Among the initiatives highlighted, the EU-FarmBook platform continues to improve the impact of research, while the ‘What is’ series from EFI provides accessible information on forestry. Additionally, the ResAlliance project fosters discussion on landscape resilience in Mediterranean agriculture through two key initiatives: a free online MOOC and a policy forum webinar, both scheduled for March.

The edition also includes opportunities such as events, calls for research, and job offers. Coming up, on 21 March, International Forest Day will celebrate the link between forests and food.
