The G7 special event ‘Forests for the world’ was held in Rome on 15-16 October, aiming to highlight the issues facing the world’s major forests and to compare strategies and actions in place for their safeguarding and enhancement. The meeting presented sustainable forest management actions underway in Italy, the EU and other areas of the world, as well as examining the issues emerging from EU initiatives on timber import certification. 

Speakers included the Head of EFI’s Biocities Facility, Giuseppe Scarascia-Mugnozza, who explored forests and environmental restoration, as part of a session dedicated to The Italian way to sustainable forest management. 

Valerie Merckx, Head of EFI’s International Partnerships Facility, presented our work supporting the transition towards deforestation-free value chains. For example, our experts support multi-stakeholder Advisory Committees in Indonesia and Malaysia to facilitate the exchange of objective information and inform implementation of project activities on legal, deforestation-free and sustainable palm oil production and supply chain traceability (read more here). 

The meeting was organized by the Accademia Nazionale Dei Lincei in collaboration with EFI, Accademia Nazionale Delle Scienze, Detta Dei XL, Accademia Dei Georgofili Accademia Nazionale Di Agricoltura, Accademia Di Scienze Forestali, Società Geografica Italiana, Federazione Italiana Dottori in Scienze Agrarie e Forestali, Federlegnoarredo. It was organized under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and the Patronage of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests.
