New SAB member appointed

Professor Bart Muys has been appointed as a new member of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of EFI from 1 May 2021.

Bart is a professor of forest ecology and management at KU Leuven, Belgium, and is head of the Division Forest, Nature and Landscape. He has a long and broad interdisciplinary experience as an academic bridging ecology and management, European and global, academics and policy. His research focuses on forest ecology and management for multiple ecosystem services, sustainability evaluation of forestry and bioenergy systems in past and present, ecology and restoration of dryland forests (mainly Mediterranean and Africa), carbon water and nutrient cycles in forests, and biodiversity function in forests.

He has been strongly engaged with EFI over the last decade, spending a year at EFI in 2012 as a senior scientist in the Motive project on modelling for climate change adaptation, and between 2013 and 2018 acting as a scientific advisor to EFIMED. Bart has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications, and regularly writes for EFI’s policy series with contributions on biomass, circular bioeconomy, water and plantation forestry.
