EFIMED and its network host regular training, capacity building workshops, summer school opportunities, and learning forums to contribute to innovation and skill strengthening in Mediterranean forest work.
In addition to these efforts, we provide a curated, timely list of calls for funding and collaboration related to issues of forestry and forest management in the Mediterranean Basin through our newsletter and the MedForest platform.

Young Leadership Programme – Mediterranean |
EFI’s Young Leadership Programme – Mediterranean edition (YLP-MED) provides training, knowledge sharing and networking on Mediterranean forest-based value chains and their contribution to a circular bioeconomy. YLP-MED takes place each year, and consists of a week-long workshop that brings experts and future leaders together to create a new space where change can happen. |

EFI-IUFRO Young Scientists Initiative |
Through a collaboration between IUFRO and the European Forest Institute (EFI), the Young Scientists Initiative (YSI) offers a unique opportunity for young scientists from Africa, Asia and Latin America to visit a European forest research organisation and conduct a scientific collaboration with a young scientist from the respective host organisation. A limited number of grants are provided annually to fund short scientific visits for early career scientists. |
Short Scientific Visits |
Each spring, EFI offers grants for Short Scientific Visits (SSV) that support young researchers from EFI Associate and Affiliate Member organisations to engage in research with another institution. The visits provide a unique opportunity for interested candidates to gain exposure to a new European research context, to foster collaboration across institutions, and to learn new techniques, methods or tools. |

Traineeships |
Through traineeships across EFI’s offices and programs, staff develop collaborative relationships with early-stage research students to conduct thesis research or contribute to ongoing EFI projects. Traineeships are offered on a rolling basis with a range of topics and experience levels and typically last between 3-6 months. |

Summer Schools |
EFI regularly hosts international summer schools, often in collaboration with prestigious forest-related organisations and universities across Europe. These summer schools typically last between 1-2 weeks, and bring together experts and students from around the world to focus on main topics ranging from forest management, to governance and policy, to practical applications of forest innovation and the bioeconomy. |
