New brief on EUDR-relevant information availability for Malaysia’s palm oil sector
Under the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), EU operators and traders will require information for conducting due diligence to demonstrate that commodities, including palm oil, are produced in accordance with the EUDR’s legal and deforestation-free requirements.
A new brief, produced by the KAMI project, examines the availability of information, data and documents in Malaysia to meet the requirements of the EUDR, with a focus on information relevant to support due diligence under EUDR Article 9 (Information Requirements) and Article 10 (Risk Assessment).
Key information sources identified include the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification and associated systems; various Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) sources; and government and non-governmental reports.
The brief also proposes solutions for improving data availability in support of a transition towards traceable, legal and deforestation-free palm oil production in Malaysia.
The brief is based on a report on reinforcing deforestation-free palm oil supply chains in Malaysia within the context of EU and other global legislation – read the report here
