Collaboration across the region for the 8th Mediterranean Forest Week
Preparations for the 8th Mediterranean Forest Week (8MFW) are advancing apace. The Joint Organising Committee (JOC), made up of 15 diverse organisations and led by the secretariat of the FAO Committee of Mediterranean Forestry Questions – Silva Mediterranea, and the European Forest Institute Mediterranean Facility (EFIMED), are meeting regularly to plan the event, which takes place on 4 – 8 November 2024 in Barcelona, at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site.
The title of the event reflects this collaborative approach and will shape the programme for the meeting. At the 8th Mediterranean Forest Week: Working together for sustainable and resilient Mediterranean forests – Towards a collaborative roadmap, plenary sessions, debate and discussion will focus on the restoration and resilience of forest ecosystems in the Mediterranean region. Sessions will be planned to explore key themes under this topic, which will provide content for consideration in the High-Level Segment, organised by FAO and UNEP and to be chaired by Union for the Mediterranean, which aims to improve the dialogue on Mediterranean forests and facilitate partnership between ministries and relevant non-governmental actors in Mediterranean countries.
The JOC also decided on a new visual identity for Mediterranean Forest Week. An open competition was launched across the region earlier this year, with 22 entries submitted; the winning design is by Gorazd Ucakar of Slovenia.
The session programming for 8MFW is well underway and more details will be revealed soon, including registration information. In the meantime, don’t forget to save the date already in your calendar!
